Artist Of The Week: Flexy R Seven & Yung Lavakid

Designed by: IULIANO MEDIA DESIGNS

Happy Wednesday everyone and welcome back to another new entry here at Music Beats Central!!!

Music Beats Central is proud to present the very first submission for our brand-new Artist Of The Week series, and what a way to begin. Rising Botswana duo Flexy R Seven and Yung Lavakid are making serious noise with their latest release, BFH, delivering raw emotion, hunger, and ambition through a track that represents their journey, struggles, and determination to rise above every obstacle.

Hailing from Palapye, Botswana, these two young artists are proving that African trap and hip-hop continue to evolve with fresh voices and authentic storytelling. BFH is more than just another underground release — it is a statement from two artists who have sacrificed, worked tirelessly, and stayed committed to their dreams despite the odds stacked against them.

From the opening moments of the track, BFH creates a dark, energetic atmosphere filled with emotion and confidence. The chemistry between Flexy R Seven and Yung Lavakid stands out immediately. Both artists bring different energies to the song while complementing each other perfectly. Their flows feel natural, the delivery is passionate, and the beat allows both rappers to showcase their hunger and individuality.

Check out their new track below!

What makes BFH so engaging is the authenticity behind the music. You can hear the ambition in every verse and feel the determination behind every lyric. The duo are not trying to imitate trends — they are telling their story and representing where they come from. The production carries a modern trap vibe while still allowing the emotion and message to remain front and centre.

Meet The Artists

Yung Lavakid

Yung Lavakid, born Lundy Sebona on 22 May 2004 in Palapye, Botswana, began his music journey in 2020. Raised by his grandmother, who showed him unconditional love and support, Lavakid developed a deep passion for music from an early age.

Driven by his belief that music could save his life, Yung Lavakid worked hard to chase his dream despite facing many challenges. Financial struggles often made it difficult for him to afford studio sessions, and there were moments where he considered giving up. On top of that, he encountered negativity from people who doubted his potential and discouraged him from pursuing music.

However, none of these setbacks stopped him. Lavakid remained focused, determined, and committed to his craft. Over the years, he has collaborated with several upcoming artists including Playboi0702, Trent XVI, Flexy R Seven, and many more.

Today, Yung Lavakid continues to push forward with a vision of putting Botswana music on the global map. His passion, resilience, and hunger for success are clearly reflected in his music.

Flexy R Seven

Flexy R Seven, whose birth name is Thabiso Raseaja, is another talented young artist from Palapye, Botswana. Born on 21 September 2004, the 21-year-old artist developed a strong interest in trap music in 2020 and has remained dedicated to perfecting his sound ever since.

Raised by his mother alongside his younger sister, Flexy R Seven credits his family for supporting him throughout his musical journey. Despite dealing with financial struggles that sometimes made it difficult to pay for beats, promotions, and other music-related expenses, he never allowed those challenges to stop his progress.

Flexy R Seven has collaborated with several upcoming artists including Ranger Boy, Yung Lavakid, WizzyD, and many others. Through hard work and persistence, he continues to chase his dream of becoming one of Botswana’s standout trap artists.

His determination to represent Botswana proudly through music is something listeners can truly hear in BFH.

Final Thoughts

BFH is a strong release from two young artists with genuine talent, determination, and something important to say. The chemistry between Flexy R Seven and Yung Lavakid feels authentic, and their passion for music shines throughout the track.

What stands out most is their resilience. These are artists who have faced real struggles, stayed committed to their vision, and continue to fight for their place in the music industry. BFH feels honest, passionate, and full of ambition, making it a track that deserves attention from listeners who appreciate authentic rising talent.

Music Beats Central would like to thank Flexy R Seven and Yung Lavakid for submitting the very first entry for our Artist Of The Week series. We are excited to see where their journey takes them next.

🎶 NEW MUSIC FEATURE: JD Smith – "Unchained Melody" 🎶

By Hanan | Music Beats Central

When a timeless classic gets a fresh revival from one of Australia’s most talented singer-songwriters, you know it’s time to turn up the volume and take notice. JD Smith—known for his stunning vocals and rich emotional delivery—returns with a cover of the beloved ballad "Unchained Melody", and it’s every bit as powerful as you’d hope.

Originally recorded by The Righteous Brothers in 1965, "Unchained Melody" is a song etched into music history, often described as haunting, romantic, and vocally demanding. JD Smith doesn’t just pay tribute to the original—he elevates it. His rendition is raw and soulful, backed by an elegant arrangement that gives space to every note, letting his voice take centre stage.

From the opening piano chords to the soaring vocal peaks, JD Smith’s version is a showcase of both technical prowess and heartfelt storytelling. The emotion he pours into the performance feels genuine and almost cinematic. He maintains the classic structure while giving it a modern touch—less theatrical, more personal.

His vocals are smooth yet powerful, capturing the longing and depth of the original but with his own soulful identity. The high notes? Flawless. The subtle vibrato? Goosebump-inducing. Whether you’re familiar with his work from The Ten Tenors or discovering him for the first time, this performance proves he’s a standout solo artist in his own right.

Rating: 10/10

A masterclass in vocal control and emotional delivery. JD Smith honours the legacy of "Unchained Melody" while making it unmistakably his own.

💬 Final Thoughts

Covers of iconic songs don’t always hit the mark—but JD Smith’s take on "Unchained Melody" is a beautiful exception. It’s a gentle reminder of how timeless music can be when performed with heart and purpose. Don’t miss this one—it’s a must-add to your chill or romance playlist.

Artist of the Week: Q&A With JD SMITH

Hi everyone, welcome back to Music Beats Central.

So excited to bring to you Artist of the Week Q&A series.

Recently, I got in touch with Australian singer-songwriter JD Smith to talk about his new song, upcoming single, album and future tours.

Which by the way JD’s next single ‘Silent in This Corner’ will be released on October 28th 2022, and album ‘Soul Searchin’ February 10th 2023. And yes, there will be a video clip, coming soon!!! Make sure to Pre-Save on ITUNES, SPOTIFY, Amazon music and YouTube music.

Exciting part is there is a bonus track which is a Christmas song.

And anyone who knows me, knows I love Christmas. This song is very close to my heart called ‘Don't Save It All For Christmas Day (Special Edition Track)”. A beautiful rendition of this song.

Can’t wait for you all to hear it, which will be released same day as JD’s next single ‘Silent in this Corner’.

Such exciting news, as it has been a long wait since his last album release ‘Sea of Tears” in 2018.

He has recorded many solo albums, his latest being ‘Sea of Tears’ and now upcoming new album “Soul Searchin’ in February 2023.

There are 7 original songs and 5 covers which includes “How Would You Feel an Ed Sheeran cover.

Check it out below of the latest single “How Would you Feel"

I purchased recently an advanced copy of the artist’s album and I have to say I was completely blown away.

The music arrangements and vocals make this a masterpiece.

You can tell a lot of hard work has gone into making this album and it is absolutely worth the wait.

From first track to the last, tells us a story, a journey. It shows warmth and emotion which is when you know it is going to be a good album!!

If you would like to hear the complete album you can purchase an advanced signed copy via JD Smith’s website https://www.jdsmith.com.au/. There are limited copies so make sure to get a copy now.

If missed, you will just have to wait till next year February 10th 2023.

The moment has arrived, please welcome my special guest JD Smith!!!

Thank you for being the first artist to be a part of the re-launch of Music Beats Central Artist of the week series. Tell us since our last interview what have you been up to?

JD: It’s been a busy time! I’ve been touring with The Ten Tenors since 2016. I’ve toured the US, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, gigs in Dubai, Netherlands, Argentina & Thailand! I recorded vocals for their latest 2 records ‘Wish you were here’ and ‘Love is in the air’.

My little family and I are always on the road, my wife works in musical theatre, so we are always in a different city with the kids. I think our friends would love us to be in one place for longer than a couple of months, but honestly, it’s just a part of our life and I’m always excited and comfortable being somewhere new all the time.

Congrats on your latest release “How Would You Feel” a beautiful song. How did it all come about in doing an Ed Sheeran cover?

JD: Thank you! I was in the middle of recording my album ‘Soul Searchin’ when I was sent this track. Peter Karpin had suggested it to my manager. I met Peter during my time on ‘The Voice Australia’.

I instantly love it! It reminded me of some of Van Morrisons earlier work. The beautiful simplicity of the guitar, the melody and the lyrics drew me in straight away! I also love ballads so of course I wanted to record it!

Absolutely love the video clip of “How Would You Feel”, where was this filmed?

JD: Oh nice. Thanks. Ian Phillips from my label Ambition Entertainment put the footage together. I unfortunately had nothing to do with the couple in the video, I’m not sure where they are from! My job was to film a little bit of singing so we could add me in there for some of the shots! But I love the couple in the video and how real they are! It fits perfectly for this song.

There is also an upcoming song that you wrote “Silent in this Corner” out October 28th 2022, from your upcoming album “Soul Searchin’”. What does this song mean to you? And what was the inspiration behind it?

JD: I love this song. I can’t wait for it to be released. I wrote it during that crazy Melbourne lockdown, when the world went a little mad for a moment! You could imagine the emotions running high, especially since we had just welcomed a new baby into the world. I was thinking about war, climate change, pandemic, border closures etc and trying to get my head around it all. Wondering how my children & many children around the world were coping with everything. Were they feeling safe, loved & protected…that’s all that mattered.

So, I wrote it as a kind of ‘in the eyes of a child’ song.

I love the arrangement; it was produced by Sean Carey. Matt Druery played some epic drum parts. I had an idea of adding some marching drums, and I think it’s my favourite part of the song!

Michael Cristiano, who I recorded half the album with, mixed it and really brought it to life! I can’t wait to sing it live.

With your new single and album, what should we expect?

JD: I’ve been working on this album for over a year! It’s been a labour of love. I’m super proud of it. It’s an adult contemporary album. Vocals are a huge deal for me, so I take a lot of time to make sure all the vocals are as great as they can be, including the harmonies etc.

There are 7 originals & 5 covers.

I think it’s a really great mix of tunes. There’s a track called Soul Searchin’ (also the album name), that I wrote with Rick Price, it sums up how I’ve been feeling perfectly.

We’re all searching for something in life, whether it be love, good health, a fulfilling career, happiness. Sometimes we find it, sometimes we don’t, but if we have people around us that can pick us up when we’re down, then it’s a great start.

In the coming months, what should the fans know on what’s to come?

JD: My album release is Feb 10th 2023. I’ll be launching the album the same day at Mantra studio in Yarraville, vic. Tickets available via my website www.jdsmith.com.au.

I’m going to be gigging a lot next year, including playing ‘Soul Searchin’ shows. You can stay updated on my whereabouts on my website.

And lastly what would you like to say to your new and current fans?

JD: Thanks so much for the support! I hope you love my new record as much as I loved recording it.

It’s all about pre-saving these days. You’ll see a lot of artists asking their fans and friends & family to pre-save their songs. It’s the only way to be heard, to chart and ultimately have your music released to a wider audience.

We all spend a great amount of time, energy, tears & money in recording music, so the support is definitely appreciated & needed.

Lots of love to all and please check out my album when it’s released.

Hopefully I’ll see you at one of my gigs.

So humble, down to earth and talented human being.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule JD and look forward for all of the exciting times ahead with the release of the singles, videos and album and of course the tour!!!

Truly a privilege and honour to interview this artist.

Artist Of The Week: Q&A With Steve Jason

Hi MBC fam and welcome to my first entry in 2020!!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and having a great start to your New Year.

To start off the series, I recently interviewed an up and coming singer-songwriter from the UK who has swag, soul and a talent that’s unique and one of a kind.

His name is Steve Jason.
Remember this name, as this artist is definitely going places!!!

Steve recently released a new song called ‘Backseat’, which you can check the video below!

And has also released a previous single called ‘Obsession’.

Both catchy tunes that are perfect to play at parties, clubs or for your ears only and definitely deserves to be air played on commercial radio!!

The songs, have the hook that gets you connected and just want more!

You will be singing and dancing that’s for sure.

Make sure to follow all social media links below, and you can purchase his new single ‘Backseat’ and other single ‘Obsession’ now on ITunes and Google Music.

In this exclusive interview, Steve talks about himself, experience, his music, what’s to come and more!! It’s intimate and everything you need to know about the singer.

Please welcome my special guest Steve Jason :)

Please tell the readers who you are and where you are from?

SJ: Well, thanks for having me as your first interview this year. It’s an absolute pleasure to feature on your blog!

I’m Steve Jason, I’m a singer/songwriter, born and raised in London.

I’m a determined and ambitious man, who always strives for success in all that I do.

Having not being raised in a rich or well to do family, I’ve had to work hard to raise money and develop my skills for basically everything in this music game.

From buying my own studio equipment to learning how to produce and write my own music. It hasn’t been easy, but I am grateful for every moment I’ve had to teach myself and learn from others.

I currently work as a singer across the UK, and also, enjoy running a few side businesses.

How did you get into singing? Who or what inspired you?

SJ: I think getting into singing came from me, just really being into and loving music.
Growing up, I used to love dancing and singing with my brothers to various pop artists as well as some of the classic, Motown records and Michael Jackson.

We used to go to church, where there were instruments and singing every Sunday. So after the service, I would ask the church musicians to teach me a few things on the piano, drums or guitar, and then go home and practice.

I started off at 6 years old playing the piano, ok an old cheap keyboard my mum bought for me and write songs. At some point, I think it occurred to me that, there needs to be a song long with the piano.

So I started writing melodies and lyrics then. My dad then bought a piano into the house at some point, which really helped me develop. I eventually, went to college and university to develop my music technology skills.

Stories like Michael Jackson’s really inspired me. He was an artist with an awesome talent, which he was home trained and crafted in order to rise up from humble beginnings.

In the same way, I have worked hard and developed myself and my own musical and production abilities to the point, where I can hopefully now rise up in this industry to my full potential. It hasn’t been easy, but I am enjoying the climb.

Your latest song ‘Backseat’ which is a great tune by the way, what was the inspiration behind the song, and what does it mean to you?

SJ: The message of the song really is about the value of true love and how it shouldn’t be played with for a temporary gain or momentary pleasure.

The song was inspired by me being cheated on by my ex, only for her to realize that the guy she cheated on me with actually played her.

But it was too late for her and I to reconcile the relationship though she tried. The less was learned too late.

Hopefully, people will think twice about their own actions, while hearing this song.

What was the process of making the video to your latest single?

SJ: Well for ‘Backseat’, I had to plan out the video first in terms of what it would show and then book the model, car, and cameraman. It was all self-directed and self-funded which was not easy.

When trying to co-ordinate all the different people and the use of the car, we actually failed the first time around, trying to shoot the video as the first model couldn’t make it.

So by the second time around shooting the video, I had to use a whole new crew. As a perfectionist, I still look at the video and see a thousand things I would like to change.

However, when you are self-funded and independent, there has to come a time where you say you are done and move on. Otherwise, nothing would ever be finished. I also sat through the whole editing process.

Please check out @shotbywill on Instagram to see more of the videographer's work. He also shot and edited the ‘Obsession’ video as well.

Will there be an upcoming EP?

SJ: I think at some point maybe. But with the way things are in the independent industry at the moment, I’m not sure an EP at my stage is necessary.

For now, I will keep releasing songs track by track, whilst building my brand.

In the coming months, what should the fans expect?

SJ: I’ve been recently approached to write and compose the music for a new musical movie being shot later in 2020.

I’ve also been asked to star in the movie and perform which I think will be awesome! I’ve been told the brief of the storyline and fell in love with the message of the movie, as well as the actual story plot itself!

This is exciting for me and will take up a lot of my production time over 2020.

However, besides the movie, I intend on building my brand, telling my unique store more and releasing new music. I actually have a few businesses on the go at the moment because being an independent artist can often mean that other streams of income are needed.

Unfortunately, this can sometimes comprise the rate of speed of production as I write and produce my music all by myself.

I think this year there will be more songs and videos, plus a movie and perhaps also some merchandise towards the end of 2020. So look out for your Steve Jason caps, mugs, and t-shirts!

And lastly, what would you like to say to your new and current fans?

SJ: I would just like to give a huge, deep and meaningful thankyou to everyone who considers themselves a fan.

If you bought any of the tracks you’re awesome. Also if you are a fan, it would be great to hear from you! I can DM me @steve_jason_official on Instagram, and just tell me how it’s going and how you feel about my music.

It’s not easy at this current climate as an indie artist (who does almost everything himself) so hearing back from the fans always take away that cold feeling that there is no one out there listening.

I’m reminded of why I do this when I get the few messages I do from people telling me they love my art. Also, I just want to share my appreciation to anyone out there listening (reading this) who loves and supports my music.
