🕊️ Remembering Two Music Legends
Before we get into the episode, we take a moment to remember two extraordinary people who recently left us.
❤️ Dolly Parton
We remember the incredible Dolly Parton, whose extraordinary career touched generations of music lovers around the world.
From Jolene and 9 to 5 to I Will Always Love You, Dolly created songs that became part of music history.
But her legacy extends far beyond her music.
Her determination, generosity and ability to remain true to herself made her an inspiration to millions.

🇦🇺 Johnny Young
We also remember Australian music and television legend Johnny Young, who passed away on 13 August 2026.
For generations of Australians, Johnny was a familiar face through Young Talent Time, where he helped nurture some of Australia's future stars.
One of those young performers was Tina Arena.
Johnny's contribution to Australian entertainment deserves to be remembered — and his connection to Tina makes his story particularly meaningful in this episode.

Sia
Before becoming an international superstar, Sia spent years finding her voice and developing her career.
Her journey took her through performing, songwriting and eventually becoming one of the world's most distinctive pop artists.
But success didn't come without challenges.
Her career involved major changes, difficult decisions and moments of uncertainty.
In Episode 10, we look at some of those moments and how Sia ultimately created a career completely on her own terms.

The Veronicas
Jess and Lisa Origliasso, better known as The Veronicas, became one of Australia's biggest pop success stories.
From 4ever and Everything I'm Not to the international smash Untouched, their music reached audiences around the world.
But behind the success were challenges involving the music industry, creative control and having their voices heard.
Their story shows that even established artists sometimes have to fight for their creative identity.
And their journey is far from over.

Vanessa Amorosi
Vanessa Amorosi has had an incredible career, taking her from Australian stages to international success.
With songs such as Absolutely Everybody, Shine and This Is Who I Am, Vanessa became one of Australia's most recognisable artists.
But her story also reminds us that the music industry doesn't always say yes.
Her Blacklisted Collection brought previously rejected music back into the spotlight.
Sometimes a "no" really isn't the end.
Sometimes it's simply waiting for the right moment.

Missy Higgins
Missy Higgins became one of Australia's most beloved singer-songwriters with songs including Scar, The Special Two and Where I Stood.
But behind the success came the pressures of touring, recording and living life in the public eye.
At one point, Missy stepped away.
And that's an important part of her story.
Because sometimes taking a break isn't giving up.
Sometimes you need to step away so you can find your way forward.
Missy returned to music with a new perspective and continues to create and perform today.

This week's Artist Spotlight is Tina Arena.
But rather than revisiting Tina's entire career, I've already covered her story in a previous Music Beats Central episode.
This time, I'm sharing my personal experience of watching Tina Arena: Unravel Me.
I saw the documentary on Sunday, and I found it both emotional and incredibly insightful.
It takes us behind the public image of Tina and explores the person behind the voice.
From her early days on Young Talent Time at just seven years old, through the challenges she faced after leaving the show, the struggles within the record industry and eventually her incredible success in France.
What struck me most was Tina's resilience.
When one chapter didn't work out...
she created another.
And sometimes starting again can lead you somewhere you never expected.
That's what made Unravel Me so powerful for me.
And with Johnny Young's recent passing, seeing his connection to Tina's early journey added another emotional layer to the experience.

Tina's story continues with her beautiful new single True Faith.
The song is her interpretation of the New Order classic.
For me, there's something particularly reflective about hearing Tina perform it.
After watching Unravel Me, I found myself listening to the song differently.
It feels like a song about life, change, experience and moving forward.
But I'll leave my full thoughts and interpretation for the podcast.

Tina's next chapter continues with her upcoming six-track EP Way of the World, scheduled for release on:

I wanted to go Behind the Spotlight and remind us that artists are people too.
They have doubts.
They experience rejection.
They have difficult days.
And sometimes...
they simply need someone to listen.
